I'd recommend against moding one of those mags to hi-cap. I'd suggest instead considering hi-cap mags for another 308 rifle, ie the FAL, G3, or M14. You could get a few of those for the price of one Win 100 mag. Moding the Win 100 would probably be even riskier. I'd be hesitant and I almost have an engineering degree.

The only problem with the 100 is the firing pin recall, which is an easy/inexpensive fix. Around here in NC a 100 in .308 in nice condition would be about $600, more for a .243, and more still for a .284. You can add for the scope value, and make sure the stock has not been cut or a recoil pad added.

A .284 clip for a model 100 or 88 is worth big bucks to sell or trade if its still in good condition provided the feed lips have not been bent or modified. I picked up 240 pieces of it biggest part was the stock. Winchester did a lot of researching on the happening, at first blameing it on our reloads.

I have a Model 100 in .308 and it has had the recalled parts replaced. It feeds and shoots premium ammo well, but has issues with dirty surplus 7.62 x 51 stuff. If you are going to hunt at 200 yards or less and buy good premium ammo, you will be happy with it, just make sure you buy 168 grain or heavier ammo.

Mr. Murray stated in his book that he thought that the number of rifles in eah caliber was the same per year. An example would be that in 1957 when the .243, .308, and the .358 were chambered in the Model 88 Winchester made the same amount of each. This is just not accurate. Most importantly he was able to reassemble the bolt assembly by replacing all the required pins to hold the bolt sleeve, bolt, and bolt sleeve lock together.
